Deck Refinishing
What is Deck Refinishing?
Deck refinishing means re-establishing the beautiful look of your valuable wood deck with use of proven restoration techniques. Wood decks take an incredible amount of abuse from sun, rain, dirt, and foot traffic because it is a horizontal surface. Over time the harsh effects of weather will naturally oxidize the surface of the wood giving it a gray color appearance. Sun and moisture can cause inferior deck coatings to fail prematurely. Our deck refinishing techniques can restore all wood decks back to new no matter how deteriorated it has become.
Our Deck Refinishing Process
Our deck refinishing process begins with cleaning the wood’s surface to remove oxidation and dirt. After the wood has thoroughly dried, we begin our detailed sanding process. We employ the use of drum sanders and orbital sanders to remove a fine layer of wood from your deck. Our intense sanding process removes any dirt or oxidation that may remain after cleaning and restores a smooth texture back to the wood. Thoroughly sanding opens the woods pores and allows the protective coating to penetrate and adhere correctly. After sanding has been completed the wood will be brightened to promote color and prevent mold and mildew. After the brightening agent has dried, your wood deck will look like the day it was installed. A protective coating will be applied according to your decks wood type, opacity desired, and desired color.

Our Process For Protecting New Decks
New wood decks need to be coated immediately to avoid the unforgiving effects of weathering. Our process for protecting new wood decks begins with addressing your deck’s wood type. All new decks will be cleaned with wood conditioner to remove tannins and mill glaze that can discolor wood. Our conditioning process allows the proterctive coating to penetrate and adhere to the wood’s surface efficiently. After the wood has completely dried it is ready for the protective finish. For woods such as Ipe, Mangaris, Teak, and Mahogany we recommend oil based penetrating sealers to protect and maintain. These oil finishes protect the wood from premature weathering and will magnify the beautiful grain of the wood while keeping the wood natural. Woods such as Redwood, Cedar, and Douglas Fir can be coated with oil based sealers and can also be coated with water based coatings that can be purchased in many different colors. These softer woods are able to accept semi-solid and solid deck stains if this is the aesthetic you desire.
